OUR MISSION STATEMENT

At CNY Music Therapy we are passionate about supporting music therapy in the greater Central New York region. We believe we are stronger together than we ever could be individually and our aim is to provide a growing number of services that are:

Accessible for all:

We aim to provide quality client care regardless of race, religion, age, sex, sexual orientation, gender identity or gender expression, ethnic or national origin, disability, health status, socioeconomic status, marital status, or political affiliation.

With open and transparent practices that encourage feedback and authentic connection.

We offer clinical supervision for fellow music therapists and Licenced Creative Arts Therapists (LCAT’s), plus also engage in peer supervision with our partners. We are therefore accountable within our business model and also accountable within our board certification and licencing standards which require continuous training to remain actively certified as Music Therapists(MT-BC) & Creative Arts Therapists(LCAT). We are also members of the American Music Therapy Association(AMTA), which is our professional body that works to keep standards and practice both relevant and accountable, e.g. a recently updated (2019) Code of Ethics to guide our practice.

Working to the highest standards of best practice in the music therapy profession.

Within this framework of accountability, we are committed to continually improve and strive for best practice. E.g. In schools, this would mean providing comprehensive and clear evaluations for students, and a clear feedback process to the school team for music therapy to be added as a related service. We also are setting the standards for writing appropriate and effective music therapy goals into the student’s IEP along with regular quarterly reports, and are seeking to promote this practice as standard across the CNY region.

Committed to nurturing community through music-making, both as a local resource embedded into local projects and as an online presence
